Beth Josey's exhibition Belladonna is a tale of paradox. Presented as a series of linocut prints and related paintings, the exhibition examines the naturally occuring irony of poisonous substances hidden within visually beautiful organisms.
"I am an artist and a scientist. My creative mind working constantly with my scientific mind has led to this show. Belladonna is a synthesis of my two worlds. It was born out of a vague fascination with the toxicity and beauty of poisonous plants and creatures. As humans we produce no natural chemical weapons. Our poison is our intellect. We use it for defence and attack, to destroy our enemies and to ensure our own survival. We use it to study these naturally occurring substances that can harm us, to try and utilise them for our own gain."
Belladonna will show at the same time as Castellum, a new solo exhibition by Andrew Ensor.
