Sandi Rigby - Larapinta Walks

30 April - 14 May, 2011

Larapinta Walks is Sandi Rigby's 5th solo show with Hardware Gallery. Comprised of etching, drawing and painting, this exhibition is typical of Rigby's many other bodies of work, where she presents us with a series of collected images gathered over a brief period, in this case a 9 day long distance walk. Rich in detail, Larapinta Walks also contains Rigby's choice of balance between fine rendered figurative detail, with flamboyant and more abstracted imaginings. Both combined into a complete visual record.

"An artist visiting the West Macdonnells cannot but help be affected by the changing colours, the light, the textures, the space, the distance, the atmosphere, and the peace; a fantastic canvas for recording and resolution of an artist's impression.

This exhibition is about how I saw the Larapinta, what affected me and perhaps the essential message that we newcomers are in fact a part of country, just as the old owners believe. My record is therefore about colour, texture, timeliness, distance, mystery and a strange sense of connection."
