Michael Winters - Chocolate Box Landscapes

14 - 25 June, 2011

Michael Winters returns to Hardware Gallery after many years with a new and unique look at landscape. Never one to dwell in the conventional, Winters has developed a structurally significant technique to reconstruct the landscape via drawing and sculpture. The series of works in this show are immediately impressive for their precision and technical mastery, but are also highly conceptual, with Winters introducing viewers to a new way of seeing the landscapes he presents.

"The title is somewhat tongue in cheek and is a slight dig at the notion of what many people think landscape painting should be. However, I have set out to produce works which are 3D, and really could be called sculptural landscapes. In these, I place an aspect of a real landscape into a much wider context. The landscape becomes part of a cosmic landscape that includes references to time and space. This is to show that our small world and its landscapes are only a small part of a much bigger world, which is both vast and endless."
