Lucien Alperstein - Water and Music

Water and Music is Lucien Alperstein's first solo exhibition at Hardware gallery and will feature work from his 'Water' series and his work documenting 'Sound Series' at Hardware Gallery over the past year. His atmospheric and sometimes candid photography conveys very personal, almost intimate moments in the artists life and do so with an earnest sense of nostalgia that avoids the self-indulgence of sentimentality. The resulting exhibition is beautiful, relaxed, confidant and clean.
"I document what friends and strangers are doing around me without trying to influence them. Both the series here follow that same modus operandi. I guess you could call it social observation or documentary. I attended Sound Series for the first time in June 2010, I didn't really plan on taking any photos but did, and from there ended up coming every month and shooting. I grew up and until very recently have lived within walking distance of the ocean. It's a frightening, fascinating, changing beast but regardless of how it's behaving and how I feel it has a calming, humbling effect on me. As well as being about a place or an event or a person, I hope my photos are just as much a representation of different moods that were present at the time the photo was taken."
